Learning fun! Everything from 1:1 counting, writing numbers in fun ways, to practicing letters and sight words with shaving cream! Bus Safety Part of our school-wide discipline plan (found here) states that we put SAFETY FIRST. That includes being safe on the bus! PTO Walk-a-thon We took on the heat and walked many many laps around the track! We were ready to relax when we came back into the air conditioning! 😅 Guest readers and free books!
We had a visit from the Adams County Extension Homemakers to read Going on a Leaf Hunt and each student got their OWN copy of the fun book! Stay tuned for more fun coming in October....

This week we had our first field trip!! We went to the Decatur Safety Park to learn about Pedestrian safety. Our school resource officer Ed Kutch taught us how to cross the street safely and even helped us practice in the Safety Village! They loved driving the 4-wheelers and practicing obeying traffic signals and signs (let's just say it's a good thing we have 10 more years before they start thinking about driving on the roads 😳). Be sure to quiz your child on some of the rules for crossing the road and being safe around busy streets.
This is an important conversation you should have with your child regularly. We started our apple day with unit in Mrs. Beer's room. She taught us the life cycle of an apple, and many other fun facts about apples. We wrote about apples for our quarterly writing prompt. In the afternoon we made apple pie play-doh (WARNING: it does not TASTE like apple pie 😝). We ended our day with an apple tasting. We tried many apple-flavored foods! Some of the favorites were the apple jelly and apple juice!
During our writing time if we aren't working on letter formation, we are doing Writer's Workshop. This is a time for the boys and girls to build writing skills at their own pace. Right now we are learning procedures. As we begin to master the workshop procedures, I will meet with 1 group. each day to meet them at their individual writing stage and to help them improve their writing. They are free to choose their own writing topic during this time. The books they are working on will come home each 9 weeks.
